We all love a good oldie, and I’m sure we can all admit to singing ‘It’s Raining Men’ or ‘Careless Whisper’ in the shower on the odd occasion…or is that just me? Well, last night plenty of voices convened at the Monument, for a mass sing-along in Newcastle’s city centre.

After hundreds of students sang Toto’s ‘Africa’ outside the White House in America, Chris Atkins was inspired to do just that, but here on the banks of the Tyne. If you can’t quite remember how this classic goes (what’s wrong with you?!) or you’re too young to remember, here’s a little reminder.

And, of course, you’ve just got to see what started this all off in America.

Chris told Chronicle Live:

I saw the same thing at the White House in America and thought it was hilarious so I decided to see if we could bring it to Newcastle and everyone seems to love it!

It’s been crazy; I was only expecting my mates to reply but it’s gone mental!

The event which took place last night after rumours of cancellation due to Health and Safety issues and concerns, saw a very impressive Geordie choir in attendance, belting out the 80’s classic.

Were you one of the hundreds of voices singing along with Chris last night in the city centre?
