Taylor Swift has been named the world’s most popular artist of 2014 based on physical sales, downloads and streaming stats.  2013 winners One Direction have slipped to second after being the top UK act for the past three years.

Swift’s fifth studio album 1989 peaked at number one in the UK after selling 1.29 million copies in the first week back in the US so there was no surprise when the album reached the top spot.

The top 10 list is dominated by Brits with Ed Sheeran in third place, Coldplay fourth, Pink Floyd seventh and Sam Smith narrowly behind in 8th.

Taylor Swift is set to perform at Radio 1’s Big Weekend alongside Florence and the Machine in Norwich later this year.
