A rather long list this month. From action comedies to nostalgia cash-ins, it’s July’s film release list!

Central Intelligence – Oh look, Kevin Hart in another film where he plays a witless buffoon next to ‘hard-as-nails’ actor Dwayne Johnson who actually knows what he’s doing. Might be worth a few chuckles. Plus fat CGI Dwayne Johnson, so… yep.

Ghostbusters (3D) – Um, it’s not exactly had a warm reception so far. Honestly I’m rather indifferent, as Ghostbusters was never a really integral part of my childhood. But anyone complaining because it has an all-female cast, be quiet. ‘Kay? 🙂

Star Trek: Beyond (3D) – The third in the modern series of Star Trek movies, Chris Pine reprises his role as Kirk with all the enthusiasm of the tree his second name depicts. Sadly, Anton Yelchin, who played Russian Yellow-Shirt Chekov died recently. A private funeral was held for the late 27-year-old in the back end of last month. Let’s hope the film does him justice.

The Legend of Tarzan – Another Tarzan reboot? Really? Well, this time it’s live action and looks kind of… Jungle Book-ish in its reboot parameters. Going for a slightly darker(?) set, from heavy rain and ambience, to a shift in tone. As well as a new art direction, we’re looking at a star-studded cast, with Margot Robbie, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson and many many more. Might be worth a look.

The BFG –A classic tale brought to life with CGI and modern effects. A nostalgia cash-in if ever we did see one, and the second of three Disney movies on this list. Expectations are decidedly meh for this title.

The Secret Life of Pets – Yes, from the studio that brought us such disappointments as Transformers, Minions, and Shrek 4, we have the newest IP from Dreamworks. Again, probably a few laughs throughout, perfect for parents at the start of summer!

Finding Dory – No words. Just nostalgia and tears. The third Disney movie on our list, and probably the last relevant film coming this July. From what we’ve seen in trailers, Dory wants to find her parents, after remembering something crucial, and ends up being captured by a marine life aquarium. We wait with baited breath. And tears.

That’s it for this month, people!

Tune in next month for another look at upcoming movies.
