Netflix’s love-child of thriller and sci-fi has been given a rather retro make over, in this four minute long feature, where we see the town of Hawkins transform into an old school NES style game.

There will be spoilers ahead.

8-bit Cinema have graced us with an idea of what the Stranger Things series would be like as an NES-style game. Honestly? I’d buy it.

The show’s creators have commented on how gaming influenced their production process, especially when developing the Upside Down, the alternate reality where Will is trapped. Matt Duffer, one of the brothers who made the show, likened the series to something like Silent Hill. We can certainly see why. The imagery and feel of something isn’t quite right is always present. There’s a sense of unease as each set of characters progresses through their story-lines.

The video begins with an 8-bit version of the show’s theme, opening as a title screen, where you would traditionally press start to get into the game. We then see the player selecting Will, leaving Mike’s house, much like at the beginning of the series.

From here it covers the main plot points, specifically from the boys’ story-line, ending with El vanishing along with the monster.

Stranger Things was massively well received by critics, and even your correspondent, and apparently, season 2 is going to be even weirder.
