Netflix Profits Double in a Year

Online video service, Netflix, has doubled its profits to £42 million within a year. Netflix admitted that 1.69 million users joined the online service during the period from March to June. The streaming firm now has over 50 million users in over 40 countries. With Netflix originals such as Orange is the New Black and House of Cards, it keeps competition such as Blinkbox and Amazon Prime at bay.

To celebrate Netflix’s millions, we have chosen the top five most popular shows on the online service:

  • Breaking Bad- is an American crime drama TV series. It has won numerous awards including two Golden Globe Awards and Breaking Bad was entered into the 2014 Guinness World Records as the highest rated show of all time.
  • Dexter– is an American drama series about a blood splatter pattern analyst who is also a serial killer. The last ever episode drew in 2.8 million American viewers.
  • Orange is the New Black– is an American comedy-drama which was first released on Netflix on July 11th 2013. The series has received 12 Primetime Emmy Award nominations.
  • House of Cards- is an American political drama. The show has earned four Golden Globe Award nominations and received 13 Primetime Emmy Award nominations. A third series is guaranteed but filming is yet to begin.
  • Arrested Development– is an American sitcom and includes known actors such as Jason Bateman and Michael Cera. The series was cancelled back in 2006, then in 2011, Netflix agreed to licence new episodes and distribute them exclusively on the online streaming service.
