Living with any condition, such as autism, can be incredibly straining and it often means avoiding a number of places just in case they’re too busy, or too noisy, for instance. However, this means that you can often miss out on visiting a lot of great places just because you’re unsure as to whether they’re appropriate, and that’s a real shame.

So, it’s great to see that a new online guide has been published, which rates the region’s best venues on some really important factors.

Will the staff know how to deal with me?

Is it likely to be too crowded?

This great initiative comes from Friends Action North East, a charity based in Newcastle. Working to help adults with learning disabilities make friends and engage in the local community, the group came up with the idea ahead of Disabled Access Day on March 10.

The online map is pretty simple – it works by gathering data from those who have visited places in the region, and determining how good the service was, particularly in relation to accessibility. Venues will even be encouraged to advertise the rating service to their customers, emphasising the need for companies to consider everyone’s needs.

It covers a wide range of areas, and there are already 5,000 venues listed.

So, why not check it out for yourself here?
