George RR Martin has teased fans that the new book might be out this year, after an interaction with some fans on his blog.

The time it takes between different books in the Game of Thrones series is something of a meme among fans. The last book was released in 2014, and people have been anxious to see how the story in the book continues, as the HBO series has surpassed the story point in the books.

He has offered a possible ray of hope for the release of Winds of Winter, which sadly did not get its release for 2016.

“You really think statements like that would make a difference? Ah, you sweet summer child. I have years of experience with this that tells me otherwise. But okay, I will try it your way. Not done yet, but I’ve made progress. But not as much as I hoped a year ago, when I thought to be done by now. I think it will be out this year. (But hey, I thought the same thing last year).”

The absence of a 2016 book release came as a massive disappointment to fans who wanted desperately to know what happened to some of the characters, whose stories haven’t necessarily been worked into the series.

But to give credit to the guy, RR Martin blamed no one but he, as he said he missed deadlines due to the simple fact that being a writer of that calibre is stressful.

He said in regard to the book not coming out last year:

“But the days and weeks flew by faster than the pile of pages grew, and (as I often do) I grew unhappy with some of the choices I’d made and began to revise… And suddenly it was October, and then November… and as the suspicion grew that I would not make it after all, a gloom set in, and I found myself struggling even more. The fewer the days, the greater the stress, and the slower the pace of my writing became.”

But, luckily the feedback has been rather positive from the delay of the book.

Hopefully fans will have their hands on the newest book by the end of the year, and the HBO series will be released at some point in summer.
