One Direction’s Steal My Girl: Review

30 September 2014

By Lauren E. White

After its unfortunate leaking over the weekend, One Direction’s brand new track ‘Steal My Girl’ has  been officially released.

The track follows the announcement of their new album, FOUR, earlier this month and it introduces a brand new sound to the band.

At the very beginning of the track, an extremely catchy and rhythmic beat introduces a blast from the past – sounding very similar to the one of ABBA’s ‘The Winner Takes it All’ – but, nevertheless, it proceeds to become unique and official UK charts number one-like. Including some meaningful lyrics that have been rare to some of their previous material, ‘Steal My Girl’ isn’t just the regular One Direction pop song. It’s quite the opposite.

Penned by two of the band members, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne, the tune really does seem to open up a new era of the boys’ music as well as extending their success in the process. Even though their mighty money-making Where We Are Tour is coming to an end, the boys have still managed to secure the number one pre-ordered album in over 60 countries – showing they’re not ready to quit just yet.

‘Steal My Girl’ is definitely the start of some great new One Direction hits and I, for one, am certainly looking forward to hearing the rest of FOUR.
