Since its release date on July 6th 2016, Pokemon Go, the reality game, has become so popular that in terms of daily active use, it is competing with Twitter.

So how does it work?

The game tracks your location through your phone’s GPS and has access to your phone’s clock. The game can detect where and when you are playing, and depending on your whereabouts and what time it is, different and more types of Pokemon will ‘appear’.

The idea of Pokemon Go is to encourage gamers to travel. Not that you would be bothered about travelling or seeing the world around you if you’re fixed on catching animations.

Unsurprisingly, though, the craze has led to a number of accidents and unlikely situations:

– Tom Currie, from New Zealand, quit his job as a barista and bartender to play the game.

– An animal shelter in Muncie, Indiana is encouraging gamers to walk a shelter dog whilst out on the hunt for Pokemon.

– Businesses are dropping ‘lures’ outside their establishments. ‘Lures’ attract Pokemon and hopeful players to a certain location – meaning that businesses could potentially build up clientele.

– Two men in San Diego fell from a cliff trying to acquire the digital creatures.

– 21-year-old Michael Baker, from Oregon, was out in the early hours playing Pokemon Go when he was stabbed causing a wound worthy of eight stitches. The keen player wouldn’t seek medical attention right away, he instead continued to play, determined to catch Pokemon.

– Pokemon nudes. Yes, really. People are taking nude selfies with Pokemon.

– Two players in Ohio have been charged with criminal trespassing and have been banned from the Toledo Zoo after they were caught trying to catch Pokemon in the live tiger exhibit.

– Shayla Wiggins, 19, from Riverton, Wyoming discovered a dead body in Wyoming River while searching for Pokemon. Police have ruled the death as an accidental drowning.

– Robbers in Missouri have been luring players to certain locations, so that they can take their belongings.

– “A wild Vaporeon”, whatever that is, was recently located in Central Park, New York City, causing Pokemon hunters to swarm the area to catch it.

I think it’s safe to say Pokemon Go is taking over. The world has gone mad!
