February 27th is apparently Pokémon day, in case you didn’t know. The original games came out in Japan on this date in 1996, and this will be the IP’s 21st birthday. They celebrated last year with a Super Bowl advert, and a party with Drew Barrymore.

This year, fans can probably expect several things while the celebrations reign.

One such event will be on Niantic’s newest platform Pokémon Go, where for a limited time, you can find Pikachu, the poster pocket monster, in a festive party hat. The hat will be permanent.

This is one of Pokémon Go’s biggest events, and will last until 6th March.

The developer Nianticposted in a blog:

“These special Pikachu will keep their party hats forever, but they can only be found during this limited-time celebration, so make sure to keep an eye out for them as you explore.”

All the earliest Pokémon movies are available to stream over at Pokemon.com, or through the mobile app, Pokémon TV. Plus, the newest Pikachu Yellow Edition 3DS XL is now available for £200.

Not only that, but the Trading Card Game and the Pokémon Shuffle app, are also celebrating as well. The Pokémon Company is holding an all-day celebration on their Twitch channel, featuring the best footage from the World Championships and more.

Happy birthday, Pokémon!
