England will play Scotland on the 11th of November, Remembrance Day, and the Fifa chiefs (chiefas if you will), are deciding how to go about displaying poppies on the shirts of players.

Wales will face Serbia at Cardiff City Stadium on the 12th. Fifa bans political, religious or commercial messages on players’ shirts and can deduct points should the players bend the rules. However, Fifa has not said if there would be a penalty for wearing a poppy.

One solution they had was to wear an armband that had a printed poppy on it. This compromise was found in 2011, when England played Spain in a friendly game, which they won 1-0.

The English Football Association said:

“We are working closely with the Royal British Legion once again this year to honour and remember the sacrifices made by those serving in the armed forces. In recent weeks, the FA has led remembrance discussions with Fifa to allow the England team to show its support for the Poppy Appeal during the World Cup qualifier with Scotland.”

England are actually are at the top of their qualifying group, with seven points, after just three games, whereas Scotland are three points behind in Group F on four.

The top team will qualify automatically in the Russia finals, with those coming second having a chance for a play-off.

Wales are third in Group D, behind the Republic of Ireland, and Serbia.
