All football fans were set for another Premier League season on the weekend, with exhilarating competition and some surprising results.

Newcastle took on Southampton on Sunday in front of their home crowd. The black and whites held onto one point, playing out a dramatic draw against the saints. The away side found the back of the net first but it wasn’t long before Papiss Cisse and Georgino Wijnaldum put the hosts in front. Southampton’s substitute Shane Long rose above his marker Daryl Janmaat to head into the top left corner to secure the draw.

The biggest shock came on Sunday as contenders Arsenal were beaten at home against West Ham who showed determination and hard work to walk away from the game with three points. Kouyate gave the Hammers the lead just before half time after goalkeeper Peter Cech misjudged the strike. Zarate then doubled the visitors’ lead in the 57th minute with a low shot from 20 yards.
