Brazilian midfielder Coutinho sank Manchester City’s title hopes as he scored the winner at Anfield on Sunday.

Jordan Henderson who took on the role as captain whilst Steven Gerrard was absent through injury, opened the game up with an outstanding curling effort past goalkeeper Joe Hart but it wasn’t long after when City’s striker Dzeko equalized.

The Blues gained two points on Premier League leaders Chelsea last weekend but they were unable to secure three points against Brendan Rogers side leaving them five points behind the top spot.

Coutinho looked the most likely to put Liverpool in front and was the heart of the Red’s attacking play, his sharpness helped Liverpool take the lead as well as finding the net himself.

Pellegrini’s side haven’t won any of their last thirteen visits to Anfield in all competitions. The Reds have been unbeaten in the league in 2015 moving them up to 5th.

Chelsea have a game in hand as they were unable to play their Premier League match due to a clash in fixtures with the Capital One Cup final where Jose Mourinho’s side took on Tottenham. A goal in each half was enough to secure the first major trophy of the season for Chelsea beating spurs 2-0.

The opening goal came from captain John Terry when Willian’s free kick dropped loose inside the box giving him the opportunity to fire home. The second goal was an own goal from Tottenham’s defender Kyle Walker. Spurs threatened through Kane and substitutes Mousa Dembele and Erik Lamela but Chelsea’s defence were solid with John Terry looking his best making it no surprise that he received man of the match. Spurs were unable to prevent Mourinho becoming the most successful foreign manager in the Capital One Cup history.
