Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds has completely surprised us all. It started relatively small time with a few people streaming in in its earliest stages, but the momentum behind it has been unstoppable. It has now been confirmed that it is the most played game on Steam ever, with a record of 1,348,374 players. This beats Valve’s Dota 2, which reached 1,291,328 players in March.

These numbers come from Steam Charts, with the original info coming from Polygon, so take them with a pinch of salt. But, in any case, the fact that something like this, from a studio that was relatively small time, has blown up so much, it’s damn impressive. The game is still in development, selling under Early Access and is still selling like hotcakes. Hotcakes filled with ammunition.

A game like this comes along every decade and sweeps everyone up through gameplay or sheer enjoyment. let’s hope that continues.

Battlegrounds will also remain at £26.99 ($30) after full release also, as the games creator Brendan Greene confirmed the game will not be getting a price hike like other games have done. He also said he hopes to have 100 million players on in the future.

But we will see.

Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds is available now on Steam with the Xbox version coming later in the year.
