R.I.P Stephen Sutton

Stephen Sutton, the young man suffering from bowel cancer who touched millions of hearts around the world through his struggles with the illness, sadly passed away in the early hours of Wednesday morning. His mum, Jane Sutton, took to his Facebook page to break the devastating news. She started the post by saying ‘My heart is bursting with pride but breaking with pain for my courageous, selfless, inspirational son’.

The 19 year old raised more than £3 million for Teenage Cancer Trust and inspired hundreds of people around the country to donate their money for a very good cause. Instead of dwelling over his incurable disease, he drew up a bucket list with things he wanted to do before dying. This led to Stephen playing the drums in front of 90,000 people at Wembley last May, completing a skydive amongst other things.

After the news broke about his death, Stephen’s fundraising amount rose by £60,000 in just over 2 hours.  That figure has now risen to more than £400,00.

Comedian, Jason Manford, who championed Stephen’s charity efforts, also took to Facebook to say how much of an inspiring person he was. Jason also went on to say ‘Some of Stephen’s words will stay with me and others forever’ and he finished his post simply with ‘Sleep well friend’.

Stephen will live on and will be known to thousands, he had a dream for the sake of other teenagers with cancer and he lived it and will continue to do so. He smiled until the very end and even though he is no longer with us he is still raising money for charity. Truly an inspiration and a legend of our time.
