Live music has become a distant memory. Standing alongside other music lovers singing lyrics back to your favourite artist word for word, in a baking hot arena or club a thing of the past. But Radio One may be about to change that.

Hopefully, by June 21st, the curtain will once again be up on the gigs and festivals and we can once again take our place in Ticketmaster’s queues to get tickets for our fave bands and artists.

The Radio One Big Weekend which was last live in 2019 at Middlesborough and will be satiating the appetites of music lovers virtually again this year.

Performances will be streamed from the likes of Anne-Marie, AJ Tracey, Wulf Blood and Celeste over May 29-31 from very special locations. Fingers crossed that said performances will not be from their own homes like last year’s event which boasted performances from Ellie Goulding and Sam Smith.

Aled Haydn Jones, Head of Radio One, had this to say about the weekend. “This time last year, the position we found ourselves in meant we had to be the first to bring the idea of a virtual festival to life. This year, we’re taking it even further, bringing the many facets of the music industry together to give listeners a huge bank holiday weekend of live music exclusive to the BBC. We can’t wait to share more details about the event very soon – it’s going to be big!”
