Set 3o years ago, Brief Encounters is a British comedy-drama series inspired by Ann Summers saleswomen.

Taking us back to a time when most women were highly restricted by marriage and social expectations, we are undoubtedly reminded of just how much women’s rights have improved over the last few decades.

Going against the wishes of her husband, Steph (Sophie Rundle) decides to run parties selling “exotic lingerie and marital aids”, a choice that would have been highly shocking at the time.

Due to such a change in values over the years, humour arises from the restrictive mindsets that many people had, causing one woman to mistake a vibrator for a food blender.

However, it soon becomes clear that “this is 1982 and (these are) women in the throes of a sexual awakening.” So, be prepared for some frank revelations, strong women and – most importantly – a lot of laughs.

An interesting and unique plot line alongside an array of great actors, Brief Encounters is set to be a hit.

If you missed the first episode on Monday night, don’t worry – you can catch up online here. The series will continue next Monday, on July 11th.
