Although Snapchat was initially released back in 2011, in recent years it has gained a huge amount of popularity and is used by many of us every single day. It is usually used to share short snippets of our lives with many of our friends, whether that is on a personal basis or to a large group at once.

However, it has also become a popular way for many teenagers to share sexually explicit images with one another, as the image deletes after just 10 seconds. Many people forget that there are apps that can secretly save images, or if a person is bold enough, they may even just screenshot it for you to see. Now, it has been confirmed that anyone sharing Snapchat screenshots without the maker’s consent could be sued under British copyright law, according to the UK’s culture minister.

This includes the sharing of sexually explicit images without consent, which could get you up to 2 years in prison.

Ed Vaizey added that “The image owner would be able to sue anyone who does this for copyright infringement.”

So, thankfully that’s one less thing to worry about with the growing concerns over social media in the 21st century.
