Size Does Matter?

Winner of the Miss United Continents beauty pageant says she returned her crown after being told she was ‘too big’. She was even told she needed to go on a diet. Let’s keep in mind however that Zoiey Smale looks like this:

Yaaaas girl.

Yeah. Exactly.

She is a size 10, won the contest in June against 11 other contestants. She said she had considered keeping the crown but in doing a protest, but that wouldn’t have really proved a point, would it. Keeping a token of ‘oh you’re pretty’ whilst simultaneously trying to protest the very thing you won.

BBC News contacted the campaign organisers and managed to get a quote from the model herself. The Northamptonshire woman said:

‘I think it’s important to empower women and know it’s OK to be healthy, educated and a good role model,’

The 28-year-old model said she would much rather be healthy than ridiculously thin. Smale said the national director of this pageant had some feedback, which the international director tried to put across lightly. But when confronted, said:

‘She needs to go on a diet plan as she is too big’.

Which is insane, considering she is three sizes smaller than the national average (16).

Zoiey has received quite a bit of support since telling people of her decision.

‘I have received thousands of messages from women who have passed my message on to their daughters,’

So, let’s ignore the fact that pageants in themselves are massive problems simply because it breaks women down to ‘are you pretty and thin’, but the fact that a size 10 is deemed too big? Stay healthy people. Take a note from Zoiey’s book.

If you’re healthy that’s all that matters.

Good day.
