So Long Selfie Stick

The National Gallery in London has become the first of Britain’s cultural institutions to ban selfie-sticks after a change in the Trafalgar Square Gallery’s rules reclassified the gadgets.
The sticks, which allow mobile-phone users to take long-range photographs of themselves, have been grouped along with tripods which are also banned, in the gallery’s rules on visitor photography. The rules, which also disallow visitor photography in most exhibitions as well as flashes, have been changed alongside those of several venues around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Palace of Versailles.
Even the British Museum ‘is reviewing its policy’ on photography, and it looks increasingly likely that the selfie-stick will find itself banished from the great and the good of the world’s culture sites some time soon.
