Sony Urged for Response Over Cross-Platform Play

Way back when, in March of this year, Microsoft extended its platform to Sony, proposing cross-platform play for the first time ever between the two companies. Microsoft also offered it to any other platform holder, including PC. But while Sony responded to the offer, it was by no means a solid yes.

Sony admitted it was open to the idea, but nothing was confirmed.

Xbox co-creator Ed Fries, who now works at Sony, has called on his company to respond to the invitation officially, like the supreme overlords they are.

The former vice president of Xbox said that current president of Xbox, Phil Spencer, was a “great guy” and this was proved by “this opening of Xbox Live for cross-platform play”.

“The only thing we have to do now is sort of find out where we stand politically with everyone, and then it’s full steam ahead to finish the solution that we’ve already started,” the Sony employee said.

Rocket League is one of the games that has perked up in the midst of the invitations. Psyonix, who made the game, have been confident that it could be done, but it’s not so much a technical issue, but a matter of politics between rival companies.

Steam users can already play with PS4 users on certain titles, but Xbox seeks to unite all platforms to involve as many online communities as possible.

Would it be a good idea to link online communities?

Or should we stay in our lanes?

Some lanes being faster than others.
