Spotify have released their most streamed lists, giving Ed Sheeran another thing to smile about. The chart-topping red head has topped the global artists list beating the likes of Eminem, Katy Perry and Calvin Harris. The ‘Lego House’ singer also took the number one spot for global male, the most UK downloads of artists and the most streamed UK downloads of albums. His new album, X, has been streamed more than 430 million times and Ed has been listened to more than 860 million times through on the online streaming service. The 23 year old beat Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour and George Ezra’s Wanted On Voyage album to secure the most downloaded UK album.
Katy Perry topped the global females list after spending 11 weeks at number one on the digital music service’s US Top 50 chart and was the only female to make it into the top five global artists category.
Spotify also revealed that Pharrell Williams’ pop anthem ‘Happy’ has been streamed more than 260 million times globally. They also noted that seven billion hours of music have been listened to by 50 million users worldwide in 2014.
