Stormzy has apologised to singer-songwriter MNEK, for replacing him with Labrinth on Sunday night. It came as a surprise to the songwriter, who sings a verse on the record version of the song, having just come back from a date that very evening.

Fans initially assumed MNEK couldn’t make it. But, after the singer shared his confusion people began to speculate if Labrinth had been brought onto the show because he’s signed to Cowell’s music label, Syco.

Stormzy explained himself during a series of tweets, the most important of which would be:

Obviously, he didn’t mean any harm by it but had just wanted to try and present the song in different ways, which is why he got Labrinth on board. He said he had spoken to MNEK and realises how bad the situation looks, but hopefully, it should all be resolved.

He told Nick Grimshaw on Radio 1 that it was all down to ‘miscommunication’.

Wires get crossed, even in show business.
