Stormzy and Lethal Bizzle both won at the GRM Daily Rated Awards last night, hosted by Manny Norte and Joelah Noble at London’s Roundhouse. The event saw the artists pick awards for best album, video and best track.

It’s one of the only award ceremonies that lets the fans decide the winners.

London born MC Lethal Bizzle was given the coveted legacy award. He said it was ‘the most important thing I’ve ever won in my career’.

Stormzy won artist of the year, which is no surprise. The grime artist has been picking up awards left and right. He’s also among the nominations for the MOBOs in November. His album, Gang Signs and Prayer was the first grime album to ever reach number one on the UK album chart. Speaking at the stage, he said:

‘There have been so many artists that have inspired me in my career and I’ve worked very hard this year so thank you. I love you guys.’

Radio One Extra DJ Charlie Sloth also won, for the best DJ award.

The awards were previously under fire after they nominated Canadian singer Drake.

While I personally may not particularly enjoy grime it’s good to see hardworking artists getting recognition.
