The Nintendo Switch has outsold the Wii U, after selling double the number of consoles on launch.

The Nintendo Switch has so far sold around 80,000 units, which is twice the amount the Wii U sold. This information was recorded through its first weekend on, from launch (3rd March) to Sunday (5th March). This information has been gathered on the UK market. The Switch’s launch figure is huge, but nothing could ever beat the 3DS, which sold 113,000 units on launch.

Nintendo has a track record, however, of stumbling behind the bigger companies like Sony and Microsoft. The PS4 holds the biggest launch number, with 250,000 units sold on launch way back in 2013.

US retailer GameStop have said that the Switch has been one of their strongest launches yet, and Nintendo will have its official stats in the next week or so.

Stay tuned.
