Leona Lewis has announced that she has left Simon Cowell’s record label, Syco. The ‘Bleeding Love’ singer admitted that is wasn’t a difficult decision to leave the label. Leona is now signed to Sony and said ‘They’ve given me my launch pad and now it’s time for me to make my own tracks in my own way’. Leona has been with Syco since winning The X Factor back in 2006. The ‘Better in Time’ singer is also turning her attentions to acting and will star in the upcoming British musical move Walking on Sunshine, which will be in cinemas from June 27th.

James Arthur has also confirmed his departure from Syco. Speculation circled in April after reports said James had been dropped but he always denied the claims. The X Factor 2012 winner took to Twitter to break the news ‘Just to clear things up – I am no longer with Syco. I would like to thank all at the label for making a great record with me’. There has been a lot of controversy surrounding James within the last year, including the star using homophobic lyrics in a rap.

Syco was founded back in 2002 by music mogul, Simon Cowell. The label is one of the world’s leading global music, film and television production companies and because of this, we have decided to look at Syco’s top five signings:

  • One Direction- Simon’s laughing all the way to the bank with these five boys, with five number ones and three number one albums, the boys are definitely milking it. The 2010 X Factor finalists have broken records by becoming the first band in the US billboard 200 to have their first three albums debut at number one. The boys are said to be worth an estimated £59.33 million.
  • Susan Boyle- After Susan came second on Britain’s Got Talent in 2009, she shot to fame with her opera singing and released a number one best-selling album on charts around the globe. Miss Boyle shocked BGT fans with her initial appearance and witty confidence but we all fell in love from the first note she sang. She has since released two more top selling albums.
  • Leona Lewis- Leona’s first album ,Spirit, is the UK’s fourth fastest selling album of all time and with three number ones, 20 million albums sold worldwide and a newly found acting career, it’s clear we haven’t seen the last of Leona Lewis.
  • Labrinth- Being a singer and songwriter, Simon has struck gold with the well-loved Labrinth. The ‘Let the Sun Shine’ singer was the first non-talent show signing for Simon in six years. Labrinth has collaborated with the likes of Emeli Sande and Tinie Tempah on numerous occasions. The star has also helped write and produce songs such as Conor Maynard’s ‘R U Crazy’.
  • Westlife- Irish boy band, Westlife, were formed in July 1998 and were managed by Simon’s silver headed friend, Louis Walsh. The band originally had five members but back in 2004, Brian McFadden decided to part from the group. Westlife have sold over 45 million records worldwide and have achieved a total of 26 UK top ten singles and with 14 UK number ones, Westlife will be sorely missed.
