The Best Break-Up Songs

10 January 2019

By Lauren E. White

Break-ups hurt. And they hurt so much you often think you’ll never get over it. This is especially the case if you’re inflicting horrendously sad music upon yourself in the period after it. So, that’s why I’ve put together this list of the best break-up songs, inspired by one of my very own break-ups! I thought it would be nice to help out some of the other gals out there. Without further ado, here are all of the high-pitched, booty-poppin’ anthems you need to get over that ex of yours.

1. Queen B’s Single Ladies

Yes, you heard it right. Bey comes first when it comes to break-up bangers, and Single Ladies is the break-up song. Damn right he should’ve put a ring on it. I don’t care how old we are.

2. A Million Dreams, P!nk

Now, you may be wondering if this actually is a break-up song at all. Well, it’s not about a break-up, but it doesn’t mean it can’t help you through them. This song is about building a world for yourself, and, covered by P!nk, it’s got some fabulous vocals. If you want to get motivated, this is the one for you.

3. Rise by good old Katy Perry

This KP bop is one that people have been sleeping on ever since its release in summer 2016. It’s about thriving in spite of all the crap life throws at you. And, if you’re going through a break-up, that’s some crap to get over right there for you.

4. Ari’s Thank u, next

2018’s break-up anthem Thank u, next will put you in great spirits when it comes to giving your ex the middle finger. You’ve had it, learned from it, and are ready for whatever else is to come. Thank u, next.

5. Dog Days Are Over, Florence and the Machine

This song is a feel-good one, and it’s one you should wait for the right moment to play. Play it when you feel you’re really getting over them, and you’re starting to feel as though you can breathe freely once again. It’s special, I promise.

We hope you’re doing okay during this phase of life. This too shall pass. Keep your head up, and keep swimming – there really is plenty more fish in that sea. Sometimes you’ve just got to deal with a few sharks first.
