The Best Songs for Sleep

9 October 2020

By Lauren E. White

For many people, getting to sleep is a hugely difficult thing. For some, it just comes to them naturally every night. Yet, for whatever reason, so many people choose to have a sleep playlist.

If you’re looking for the best additions to yours, you’ve come to the right place. Here’s our favourite tried-and-tested songs for sleep.

1. She Is My Lady, Donny Hathaway

Listen here.

The softest, sweetest vocals of Donny Hathaway are always perfect. But when you just want to drift off, they hit differently.

And if you’re a sucker for a love song, this one is unlike any other in our humble opinion.

2. Have I Told You Lately, Van Morrison

Listen here.

You will have heard this song before even if you don’t think you have. And it is the nicest, most peaceful song to wave you off into dreamland.

Van Morrison’s husky vocals will have you out like a light in no time.

3. Turn Me On, Norah Jones

Listen here.

If you can’t deal with a bit of piano tempo, then don’t add this one. Otherwise, this is perfect for you. Especially if you like Love Actually – it’s in the film!

Sensual, chilled and just scrumptious vocals, Norah Jones completes that sleep playlist.

4. Can’t Help Falling in Love, Elvis Presley

Listen here.

Again, this might be a bit too much if you have your volume quite high. But Elvis is never wrong, is he?

Quite possibly one of the most beautiful love songs ever written and performed with those haunting vocals, Can’t Help Falling in Love is perfect for sleep (and tears).

5. Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right, Bob Dylan

Listen here.

Rumour has it if you have this on your sleep playlist you’ll be dreaming you’re in southern America with some horses and a cowboy hat.

Pretty cool dream, right? Thanks, Bob.

Sweet dreams!
