Ever since the final installment of the Lord of The Rings, the elves, dwarves, hobbits and other mystical creatures have had a silent tear running down their cheeks, as well as the fans. Peter Jackson had planned to end it there, it wasn’t until later that he revealed he was going to make The Hobbit or An Unexpected Journey and the ‘nerdiverse’ exploded with Tolkien pride.

Originally written by J. R. R. Tolkien after the Lord of The Rings, The Hobbit was the next best thing, involving more fantasy than the original books – featuring such creatures like trolls, dragons and Rhosgobel rabbits.

It was very unexpected when award winning director Peter Jackson announced that he would, in fact, be directing not one, not two, but THREE Hobbit movies entailing the adventurous endeavors of Bilbo Baggins. The first was a huge hit named The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, airing December 2012 and raised $13 million in one night!

Expectations are high for the sequels The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug and The Hobbit: There and Back Again. The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug is awaited with pointy ears and smiles until it is released later this year on December 13th. The third and final installation is both anticipated and dreaded.

One thing is clear though; it will not be a wasted journey.
