The Mammoth Music Deal

Many of us would think of £80,000 a day as more than enough to get by on as far as wages go. But what about an £80 million album deal? More than we’d even imagine.
Well, the ‘Someone Like You’ phenomenon Adele is ‘in talks to sign landmark £80m Sony deal’. The news comes after her third studio album release was postponed to 2015 instead of late this year. According to reports, she is currently in negotiations to end her contract with XL Recordings after eight years, following her hugely successful releases of 19 and 21.
The deal would see the global star set up with her own record label as well as one of the biggest deals in history. But, even more exiting than this would be something for her fans – if it’s true, the deal could see the singer embark on tour for the first time in history.
A statement from Adele’s current recording label said: “There will not be a further new release by Adele during 2014 and consequently there will be a fall in XL’s turnover and profits”. As well as this, a spokesperson for Adele and Sony declined to comment – could this be a clue?
The report is also said to have shown that XL made $15 million in net profit on almost $61 million in revenue in 2013, coming after the news that Adele rakes in a whopping £80,000 a day.
