So in case you’ve been living under a rock this week, IS has claimed another 80 lives in France after someone drove a truck through crowds celebrating Bastille Day.

Channel 4 used their award-winning journalist Fatima Manji to co-present the facts from the London-based studio, a day after the attacks.

Then there’s this b**phole:

Kelvin MacKenzie, in everyone’s favourite newspaper The Sun, criticised Channel 4’s journalist for wearing a hijab while reporting on the attack.

His reasoning?

“Was it appropriate for her to be on camera when there had been yet another shocking slaughter by a Muslim?”

Yes. Yes, it was totally appropriate.

Why the b**p wouldn’t it be?

“Was it done to stick one in the eye of the ordinary viewer who looks at the hijab as a sign of the slavery of Muslim women by a male-dominated and clearly violent religion?”

Have you taken a close look at, oh, I don’t know, any other religion ever?

Channel 4 news responded to these criticisms with a statement, saying:

“The comments published in The Sun by Mr MacKenzie are offensive, completely unacceptable, and arguably tantamount to inciting religious and even racial hatred,” Channel 4 News said.

“It is wrong to suggest that a qualified journalist should be barred from reporting on a particular story or present on a specific day because of their faith. Fatima Manji is an award-winning journalist. We are proud that she is part of our team and will receive, as ever, our full support in the wake of his comments.”

Yet another case of an old white guy using his platform to spout nonsense.

What does it matter who the reporter is, what they wear, or their religion? In fact, she might be more appropriate to cover the story.

But by this logic then:

Whenever someone reports on a shooting in America, they can’t be white, or Christian.   giphy (1)
