After racial slander and abuse have been reportedly rising in the UK after the EU referendum vote, one man has taken a rather poignant stance on it all via Snapchat.

Twenty-year-old student Nalin Dissanayake, who was raised in south London, uploaded a rather chuckle-worthy silent video to Facebook that… may actually not be so light-hearted?

In the video clip, he holds on to a British passport, raising it to (we hope) pretend people who are prying into his citizenship, while looking around rather hurriedly.

Yes, we may have a story today mocking one of the people this guy would be showing his passport to, but even so… this is rather harrowing.

Have we opened our country up to this kind of xenophobia?

Is this going to be the norm?

Probably not, but it still sends a rather strong message. And yes, we can all agree just because of how someone voted, does not mean they should be attributed with a certain stereotype; we are then no better than those we criticise for doing the same damn thing.

In the words of Ultron:

"Everyone creates the thing they dread"
“Everyone creates the thing they dread”

And yeah, the film might not have been very good, but still. Point remains. Let’s not give in to the division that now separates our nation. And I do mean ours as in everybody. Whatever race, sexuality or whatever you are. Whoever you are.

Stay strong, people.

Please.
