The video games industry is one of the largest media industries in the world and much like any traditional media industry, there are millions of entities within it. The question is, what are some of the must-have games?
5. Minecraft (2011)
An obvious choice to kick off the list is Minecraft. From its humble beginnings to its $2.5bn acquisition by Microsoft, Minecraft has proved time and time again that the only limits to its gameplay are your own imagination.
Fun for all ages, Minecraft is the perfect example of simplicity executed to perfection.
4. Super Mario Galaxy (2007)
You simply couldn’t have a list without the inclusion of a Mario property. The question is, though, which game makes the grade? For me, the obvious choice is Mario Galaxy.
While Mario has a fabled history of exceptional platforming games, Mario Galaxy is where the series hits its stride and delivers the most enjoyable overall experience.
3. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (2011)
But what about storytelling? The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim certainly takes its place on this list for that alone. With a beautiful world to explore and the ability to tackle the game in a non-linear approach, Skyrim stands out as one of the ultimate role-playing games.
2. Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018)
Another exceptional storytelling experience that is a must-play is that of Red Dead Redemption 2.
With both a beautiful setting and a story that keeps you enthralled for endless hours, Red Dead Redemption 2 is the perfect example of how much more than just action video games can be.
1. Wii Sports (2006)
Could it really be anything else? To end the list of the top five must-have games, there is no more obvious option than Wii Sports. It’s hard to imagine there being anyone who doesn’t have experience playing Wii Sports.
Fun for the whole family? Check. Wii Sports remains one of the most accessible games for people who don’t typically play video games and it is easy to see why.
