US President Donald Trump is no stranger to controversy. However, his latest Twitter comments have caused a stir among people and politicians alike due to their racist nature.

In a three-thread tweet on Sunday, Trump said that four Congresswomen of colour who have been extremely criticial of his administration, should “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came”.

Here’s the whole thread:

It is obvious from this, then, why his comments have caused quite a stir. Trump telling these four Congresswomen to “go back” to where they came from is also comical – all four are US citizens, and three of them were born in the US.

One of the women – Ms Ocasio-Cortez – was born in the Bronx in New York, about 12 miles away from the Queens hospital where Trump himself was born.

Although the president did not specifically name the Congresswomen, it is widely accepted that they are Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib. The women have hit back after the comments, urging the American public “not to take the bait”.

Since the global stir, Trump has defended his comments and denied all accusations of racism.

British PM Theresa May labelled Trump’s comments “completely unacceptable”, though Mr Trump remains unconvinced of any wrongdoing.
