Tunes of the Week

2 February 2016

Exams are over and so ‘Tunes of the Week’ is back! This week’s picks are from some musical heavyweights. 2016 is shaping up to be a good year for music!

‘Say You Do (feat. Imani and DJ Fresh)’ – Sigala

Due to be released on March 18th, Sigala’s latest track will fight off any remaining winter blues. With a catchy hook, bouncy chords, and a D’n’B beat, ‘Say You Do’ builds on the strengths of Sigala’s previous hits ‘Easy Love’ and ‘Sweet Lovin’’. This song will leave you craving summer.

‘La Devotee’– Panic! At The Disco

Being the sole remaining member of Panic! At The Disco does not seem to have any effect on Brendan Urie’s creativity. ‘La Devotee’ is a single off the recently released album, Death Of A Bachelor, and features Urie’s signature vintage vocals over energetic, upbeat rhythms. It is a catchy, classic Panic! At The Disco anthem: perfect for a sing-along, yet still offering meaning when the lyrics are examined.

‘No More Parties in L.A (feat. Kendrick Lamar)’ – Kanye West

Amidst all the recent controversy, Kanye has been releasing new singles on Soundcloud, reminiscent of the G.O.O.D Fridays before My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The best track so far has been ‘No More Parties in L.A’, the first ever Kanye/Kendrick Lamar collaboration. It sees both rappers flowing over a laid-back beat. It hints that, for WAVES, Kanye will move away from heavy electronics used in Yeezus, perhaps making it easier to listen to.

‘One Take Freestyle’ – Stormzy

First up is Stormzy’s new single, ‘One Take Freestyle’, which follows the success of ‘Shut Up’. Arriving after Ghett’s version, Stormy flows ferociously over the Rude-Kid produced track. Stormzy stays on form and does not hold back. Characteristically, he fires shots, this time aimed at the Brit Awards, boxer Dillian Whytes, and as always, Twitter haters. This track is high energy, and Stormzy picks up 2016 straight from 2015.
