An exciting, refreshing and often humorous take on dating, First Dates stretches many boundaries. In the modern day, when good old-fashioned dating is no longer popular with the younger generation, this is a fantastic way to meet new people and find love. While also, of course, allowing thousands of others to watch you during those awkward and often embarrassing first meetings.

This programme truly is genius. Couples are paired up according to their interests, likes and dislikes online but do not find out anything more until they arrive at the First Dates restaurant on the night. Some travel hundreds of miles just to be there, others are merely a walk or a bus away. Men and women of all ages can be found on the show, with different races and religious views, different classes and jobs, but all ultimately searching for the same thing – someone to love. Well – maybe a couple were just looking for sex, but we’ll skip over those!

As well as providing the British public with a good laugh over the past four series, we’ve also experienced heartache and despair from those who haven’t quite found what they were hoping for, alongside couples who ended up in a relationship a matter of months later. It really is exciting to watch.

If you haven’t watched First Dates yet, you can catch up online or watch the next episode on Thursday night at 10pm, on Channel 4.
