Uber, after last month’s loss of its private licence, have appealed against the decision by Transport for London.

This comes after talks with Mike Brown, who runs TfL.

The appeal could take months, during which time Uber can continue to operate in the capital. It was suspended due to concerns over the ride-hailing firm not being ‘fit and proper’. There were also concerns over the drivers and how background and criminal checks were done. The app has attracted 3.5 million to use the service, with 400,00 drivers currently using the service.

An Uber spokesperson said:

‘While we have today filed our appeal so that Londoners can continue using our app, we hope to continue having constructive discussions with Transport for London. As our new CEO [chief executive] has said, we are determined to make things right’
