While Sony may have given Spider-Man to Marvel studios, they still retained the rights to some of Spidey’s villains. Venom being one of them.

The first official image from the film has been released, showing om Hardy as reporter Eddie Brock. It’s not the most exciting image, however if it’s a prelude for what is to come, then we’ll take it as it goes. It’s always good to see something official released, just to solidify the fact it’s being made. We have still yet to see that alien symbiote that the villain is named for.

Venom

Venom is set to hit theatres on 5th October 2018. It will also star Riz Ahmed and Michelle Williams. Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer is directing the spin-off.

There was initially some confusion as to whether Venom would slot into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Marvel boss Kevin Feige and actor Tom Holland confirmed that the two universes are entirely separate. Spider-Man: Homecoming producer Amy Pascal suggested otherwise however, but then switched to Feige’s position.

Venom

Venom will be part of its own universe including Silver and Black which will follow the characters of Silver Sable and the Black Cat, Spider-Man’s off and on squeeze, if you will. That is set to arrive on 8th February 2019.

In related news, Sony recently released a Spider-man: Into the Spiderverse trailer a few weeks ago. This will focus on Miles Morales, the new canon Spider-Man in the comics. It looks pretty damn cool.
