Vivienne Westwood To Break Fashion Week Gender Binaries

Whilst this year’s figures show that the fashion world is making very slow progress in terms of hiring models of different ethnicities and sizes, the same cannot be said for its current outlook on gender rules and regulations. At the forefront of the new battle to smash gender binaries and labels is highly acclaimed designer, Vivienne Westwood, who has announced that she will show both men and women’s clothing together during London Fashion Week Men’s.

The show is set to take place this coming January and in one of the biggest ground-breaking twists this year, will show both the men and womenswear collections of Fall 2017 during London Fashion Week Men’s. Subsequently, it has been decided that there will in fact be no womenswear runway show during the Spring 2017 Women’s shows in London this September.

The brand stated that this decision “follows the company’ s wider strategy to simplify its line portfolio by unifying its mainline collections under a single brand umbrella.” However, Westwood is not the first to make the merge between menswear and womenswear, as her decision follows in the footsteps of other major brands including Gucci and Burberry. The collection will be available to view via lookbook and through private appointments.
