Castlevania, a name that will mean nothing to some, and everything to others, is a game that was the height of monster slaying back in the early days, and apparently it’s getting its own show on Netflix.

Producer Adi Shankar (who produced The Grey and Dredd) told IGN that the show is “in the vein” of something like Game of Thrones.

He declined to share story detail, but did say it would have a lot of adult themes and violence. Given the content of the games, this isn’t surprising. The most recent Castlevania game (Lord of Shadows) was in 2013, and was rated at 16+.

The first season will apparently be released by the time the year is over, and Shankar has literally promised, “it will end the streak and be the western world’s first good video game adaptation.”

Shankar also said that a second season would be out next year; however, this was not in the official Netflix statement.

It’s odd that Castlevania has been around for more than 30 years, and there have been few adaptions in terms of film or other media.

It would be nice to see a decent video game adaption, in the form of a series.
