Which British Acts are Dominating the Music Industry

Sam Smith– this soul singer and songwriter has been active since 2007 but didn’t really catch our attention until he rocked onto the charts on Naughty Boy’s single, ‘La La La’, which hit number one 2013. At just 22, Sam already has three number ones under his belt including ‘Money on my Mind’ and ‘Stay With Me’. Smith’s album, In The Lonely Hour, has peaked to number one on the UK Album Chart, it was a top ten in Australia and made it to the top five albums on Billboard’s Canadian Album Chart. The ‘Leave Your Lover’ singer has openly revealed that the album was written about a guy he had feelings for but he didn’t feel the same. Sam also performed on the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards. He has won numerous awards in just one year and became 2014’s BRIT Critics Choice. We can safely say, Sam Smith, is now kind of a big deal.

One Direction– although these lads may not be everyone’s cup of tea, they really have taken the biscuit when it comes to pop music. Their first three albums have reached number one in the UK charts and their latest album, Midnight Memories, become a global success after debuting at number one on the US Billboard 200 , the album also become one of the fastest-selling albums in Amazon UK’s history. Midnight Memories has sold over four million copies worldwide and despite being released in November last year, it become the best-selling album of 2013. The guys have had three number one singles including their first ever single ‘What Makes You Beautiful’. 1D have won countless awards including four BRITs and four MTV Music Video Awards.

Adele– Adele’s vocal chords were clearly kissed by God. Her debut album, 19, was released way back in 2008 and it is certified four times platinum in the UK and double platinum in the US. The ‘Rumour Has It’ singer released her second album, 21, in early 2011 and it took the world by storm. It earned Adele six Grammy Awards in 2012 and saw the Tottenham born songstress break the world record for the most Grammy Awards won by a female artist in one night. Adele has won countless awards since her 21 release. The album has been certified 16 times platinum in the UK; in the US the album is certified Diamond and has sold over 30 million copies worldwide. The ‘Someone Like you’ singer was the first female artist to have three singles in the top ten at the same time. The 26 year old topped the Young Music Rich List with a fortune of £30 million. Adele also dropped a hint back in May that her new album, 25, is due out soon. Adele is truly ‘Rolling In The Deep’.

Ed Sheeran– His first debut album, +, was certified quintuple platinum in the UK. Ed’s first ever chart single ‘The A Team’ peaked at number three in the UK charts and sold over 57,000 copies in its first week of sales; it also made it to the top ten in numerous countries including New Zealand and Australia. In September 2011, +, debuted at number one in the UK and has sold over 1.8 million copies. When the ‘Lego House’ singer released ‘Drunk’ it became his fourth consecutive top ten singles. Ed’s new album, X, was only released on June 20th and it has already soared to number one in the UK, Ireland, the US, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Germany, Finland, Denmark, Switzerland and Norway!
