In the UK, we might thank the sun for disappearing for a while seeing as we’ve tolerated a hot and sticky heatwave for the last month. However, a strange phenomenon in Siberia shows that it really is better that the sun does what it’s expected to.

On the 20th of July, residents of Eveno-Bytantaisky and Zhigansky, Siberia were surprised to see that the sun completely vanished right in the middle of the day.

These districts only see 2 hours of sunlight in winter but usually get up to 24 hours of the star in July. That’s why it was a real shock when it vanished at 11 am and didn’t return until 2 pm.

You may be wondering how the entire sun could just vanish suddenly in one place while still being visible in other places around the world. Well, the answer isn’t as remarkable as you may have hoped.

It’s currently wildfire season in Siberia, with fires twice the size of Houston, Texas ravaging the country. The sun seemed to disappear because of the smoke from the fires covering it.

As with any natural mystery that seems inexplicable, countless conspiracy theories emerged.

According to the Siberian Times, some locals blamed the devil while others blamed the Americans and UFOs.

While the thought of aliens flying over the sun is a lot more interesting, the actual reason for this mysterious event is much more plausible. Sorry.
