Why Vote YES to Scottish Independence?

Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP are once again in pursuit of a Scottish Independence Referendum despite the last one apparently being a once-in-a-lifetime event. Anyway, should Theresa May give it the green light, there is going to be a ton of campaigning – probably more so than the first time since it could be their last chance for decades. Just in case anyone needed a reminder of the argument for Scottish Independence, we’ve listed them here. If Scotland becomes independent, it can:
- Take responsibility by moving all Governing Powers to Scotland. The Scottish can decide on all public spending.
- Get the Government it chooses. All of the members of their Parliament will be elected by the Scottish people.
- Remove Trident from Scotland for good.
- Secure oil funds in the North Sea. There is estimated to be as much North Sea oil still to come as has already been extracted.
- Set policies in line with the wishes of the Scottish people.
- Stop NHS being privatised in Scotland.
- Aim an economic policy at Scotland which will replace an economic policy that disproportionately benefits the South East of England.
- Invest more into Scotland’s ‘key growth industries’ such as tourism and life-sciences.
- Create an extension of childcare to help parents get back into work more easily.
- Abolish the “bedroom tax” which will save 82,500 households in Scotland.
- Reinstate public ownership of the Royal Mail in Scotland.
- Ensure minimum wage will rise at least in line with inflation.
- Reduce the rate of corporation tax by up to three percentage points to compete with business regions like London.
