Today is World Poetry Day, a celebration of great literature and poets across the world. So, in honour of the day, we thought we would share with you some of our favourite poems.

Daddy – Sylvia Plath – If you love poetry that you can delve right into, this poem will certainly meet your expectations. It’s a bit of a tongue twister, but it’ll leave you engaged all the way through.

Still I Rise – Maya Angelou – A renowned civil rights activist, Maya Angelou is known for writing empowering poetry, and this is a great example.

Cinderella – Anne Sexton – We love intertextual poetry, and so Anne Sexton’s Cinderella is the perfect read. Although it may not follow the typical fairytale, this one is arguably much more interesting.

Rain – Don Paterson – Don Paterson’s poetry is incredibly relatable, and it makes for a great read. This poem, in particular, flows straight off the tongue, and it’ll leave you feeling nice and relaxed.

What’s your favourite piece of poetry? Let us know below!
