X-terminating the Charts

The ginger Jesus that is Ed Sheeran has officially gone double platinum with his second album, X.

Since its release in June this year, Sheeran has overtaken Coldplay’s Ghost Stories in the battle to be the best-selling artist of 2014. X also became the fastest-selling album of this year so far after shifting
a whopping 182,000 copies in its first week of release.

It’s not just our beloved Ed bringing home the gold for British music as nine out of ten of this year’s best-sellers are from British acts. The likes of Sam Smith and Paloma Faith are joining Sheeran at
the top, but will his position be threatened when One Direction release their new record, FOUR, in November?

Enjoy your time on the throne of music for now, Ed… don’t get too comfortable.
