#YEAR11PROBLEMS

Easter

Today marks the final week of school before two luxurious weeks off and also the beginning of the Easter countdown. However, #YEAR11PROBLEMS asks if Easter is really something we still care about as a society.

For those who missed out on Year Three primary school education, here’s a recap of the Easter story:

• Jesus went to Jerusalem

• Jesus was betrayed by Judas

• Jesus hosted the cosy Last Supper

• Jesus was then captured by the Romans

• Jesus was quite literally put on the cross with nails in his hands, before telling the people to forgive

• Jesus was REBORN and shocked the world.

Whether or not you believe in this story, it’s safe to say that you probably celebrate Easter and should therefore know the meaning behind it (even if my explanation did lack eloquence).

The thing is that over the years, Easter has become an event that nobody really looks forward to. It’s kind of just there in between new year and Christmas, never on the same date.

In my opinion, I’d say that the meaning of Easter was lost long ago and it is now an excuse for chocolate corporations to milk as much money out of the public as possible. Tragic, really.

Despite this, I hope you have a great Easter if you celebrate it and even if you aren’t a believer, remember the reason why Easter is here in the first place.

See you next week.
