#YEAR12PROBLEMS

Lauren takes on Trump

Oh, yes. It’s personal.

As you can see, in this week’s column I am taking on the business tycoon and Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump. Although he’ll never read this (even if it was brought to his attention, I think his vanity and dogmatism would prevent him from reading anyone else’s opinion), I’m writing it anyway. Who doesn’t love a bit of Trump getting trumped on a Monday morning?

First things first, I am not here to breed hatred. That’s Trump’s job. He claims that America needs to be made “great” again; that Muslims are “terrorists”; that a “big, beautiful wall” on the Mexican border will solve all of the nation’s issues. His policies and speeches are deplorable and all-too-familiar. Remember fascist Hitler? Remember how he scapegoated and wanted to make Germany great again? Yeah, that…

Another under-reported thing about Mr Donald J Trump is his greed. In the aftermath of the horrific terrorist attacks in New York fifteen years ago on the eleventh of September, a possible President boasted about now having the tallest tower in the States. His building remained unscathed, yet he still applied for funding from the Senator at the time, Hillary Clinton. He took $150,000 of the funding pot intended to rebuild the city when he himself had nothing to rebuild. Trump’s callous rapacity in the face of horror is frightening.

Now, in Trump’s eyes, since I’m a woman, I’m less capable than him. He’d probably have the audacity to say that it’s the reason I don’t understand his ‘brilliance’ or something ludicrous like that. However, I beg to differ. Whether he likes it or not, he’s a sexist. Don’t breastfeed in front of him – it’s “disgusting”; don’t put men and women together in the military as “sexual assaults” pose the question “what did these geniuses [the military] expect?”

My final point is Trump on his daughter. It’s creepy and wrong on every level ever. He said this about his 34-year-old daughter Ivanka Trump: “I’ve said that if Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps, I would be dating her.” That is all.

So, conclusion: Trump is terrifying, deluded and divisive.
