Lazy people

Happy Monday!

If you’re thinking this week’s column title has gone a bit Katie Hopkins, don’t fret – it hasn’t. I’m not going to sit at home and put on a few stone for the sake of attempting to prove fat people can easily lose weight. My version of lazy people has just as much to do with weight as Hopkins does with kindness.

Lazy people in my world are the ones who sit back and enjoy the ride, not caring to take their share of responsibility. Maybe it’s a bit bigoted: after all, some people do struggle with responsibility. But is it really that much of a struggle to take on your own part of a project?

When it comes to group projects or efforts in organising, there are always people who will do more than others, while some stand by and do nothing. What makes matters worse is that often, those people get the credit for the hard graft.

Now, I’m not saying that people who work hard do it for recognition. Some of them usually don’t even like attention at all. But what I am saying is that it’s not fair to hand out credit to the undeserving for the quiet work of the deserving. The lazy people in a group deserve not one bit of the credit, the grade or the glory. And it’s about time people actually took notice of the ‘logs’ in a group, then act accordingly.

I hope this week is food for thought. Don’t be the lazy one. Give credit where credit’s due. Take the time to understand everyone’s role in a group.

Thank you very much and I’ll see you next week.
