With 1 in 2 people in the UK likely to be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lifetime, the improvement of health treatment in this area is of high importance to everyone.

This is why plans have been unveiled for a multi-million-pound expansion of cancer services at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton.

Macmillan Cancer Support has been working with the NHS Foundation Trust on this project, with joint funding from a North Yorkshire philanthropist. The new build will be named the Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre.

With modern facilities, the new build will include:

  • A chemotherapy treatment lounge that could treat up to 35 patients a day
  • Complementary therapy facilities
  • Treatment and consulting rooms
  • A Macmillan cancer information and support centre
  • Supporting accommodation

If this is something that interests you personally, you have the opportunity to view the proposed design on Wednesday 11 January between 2-7pm in the hospital’s hub.
