Most Iconic Halloween Film: Corpse Bride

Corpse Bride has been a generation’s favourite Halloween film since its release in 2005. While it may not be your typical horror film with paranormal monsters or weird little children, Tim Burton’s iconic animated fantasy brings love, pain and death to the table every 31st October.
Set in a Victorian-era village, Corpse Bride follows the story of an unlikely pairing: Victor Van Dort (Johnny Depp) and Emily Watson (Helena Bonham Carter), who came together when Victor accidently placed a wedding ring on top of an upturned tree root that turns into the finger of a murdered woman who we come to know as Emily. However, things aren’t that easy. Victor had placed the ring on the root after messing up the wedding rehearsal and leaving his soon-to-be wife Victoria Everglot behind. Their impending marriage was arranged by their parents in order to restore the wealth and status once lost into Victoria’s family. Despite the marriage being arranged, the pair fall in love with each other, but Victor is now in the Land of the Dead with Emily, whom he cannot escape from due to the pair now being married.
Like very few Halloween films, this one has a happy ending. While it’s painful to see Emily’s peaceful yet heart-breaking ending, we know she’s in a better place. Perhaps Corpse Bride is one of Burton’s most impressive creations – its deep intimacy is extremely rare and if horror films aren’t your thing on Halloween, Corpse Bride simply is.
Iconic because of the characters (Emily in particular) and its infamous director, here at b**p we believe that if you watch anything this Halloween, it really should be Corpse Bride.
